Beginner

Those just starting their skiing careers don’t have to miss out on the spectacular scenery of Lake Louise. Easiest trails aren’t relegated to one area at the bottom of the mountain, but instead cover nearly every area of terrain.

From the top of the Eagle Lift beginners can wind all the way down the front on Eagle Meadows. On the backside, Saddleback is an easy trail that goes from the Eagle Ridge summit all the way down the Ptarmigan Quad or back around to the front side. Although all chair lifts have an “easiest way down,” beginners and “Low Intermediates” are asked to avoid runs serviced by the “Top of the World” when visibility is poor.

Intermediate

While there are intermediate runs all over the mountains, the Larch Area is an intermediate’s paradise. These 600 skiable acres are on a mountain, which is actually across from the backside of the main mountain. The mountain features a mix of groomed cruisers and gladed runs.

Low intermediates are advised to ride Paradise Triple Chair, which is the least busy chair on crowded days and return to the bottom on the long winding Saddleback. “High Intermediates” will enjoy the face to the right of the Summit Platter. The runs in this area are Sunset, Skyline and Charlies’s Choice.

Most of the front side easiest and intermediate runs are groomed daily.

Advanced

Skill will take you places at Lake Louise -- namely from the tippy top to the bottom and back again. It’s not only the views that will take your breath away from the peaks of Lake Louise. The Diamond Mine area off the Paradise Chair is a bump skier’s paradise. Those who like to take their vertical drop in the trees will enjoy the glades off the Ptarmigan Quad and the back bowls are wide-open bliss. Louise’s six back bowls hold the driest, lightest powder in the world. In all, 2,500 acres of pristine, natural powder blanket the wide-open bowls at Lake Louise.

Skilled skiers will also find limitless possibilities in the backcountry surrounding Louise. Just make sure you know where you’re going so you don’t get lost in the wilderness.

Competition

Early each season, Lake Louise welcomes skiing’s stars for World Cup Racing. Lake Louise is host to the men's and women's Winterstart World Cup downhill at the end of November as well as the NORAM competition that is held the following week. For the novice, there are NASTAR race courses on the mountain.
