Lake Louise

At Lake Louise, the scenery is above all else. Not only do the rugged cliffs and massive glaciers tower over the brilliant turquoise of the lake, but the scenery dominates every aspect of recreation and enjoyment here at the center of the Canadian Rockies.

Whether skiing the world class terrain at the resort, skating on the lake, hiking through the ice fields or just enjoying a drink at the Chateau Lake Louise, looking around is the main activity here. Even after the sun has gone down, the beauty of Lake Louise lingers. The white snowy peaks glow into the night, contrasting against the dark sky.

Located in the heart of majestic, historic Banff National Park, Lake Louise’s scenery will take the breath of even the most seasoned traveler. An exhaustive gamut of outdoor recreational activities allows visitors to not only look at their surroundings, but also get out and enjoy them. In addition to skiing at the resorts, one can take in the views on a heli-skiing adventure, a scenic plane ride or a thrilling ice hike.

As the area has been protected from overdevelopment, much of the beauty of Lake Louise remains unspoiled. The ski resort was designed with the natural beauty surrounding it in mind. Spectacular views await from all the resort’s vast and varied terrain.

The resort was voted number one for scenery and number two for value in all of North America by SKI Magazine in 2003. The resort also earned Gold Medal awards from Ski Magazine for terrain challenge, value, accommodation and dining. All skiers have the right to expect minimal lift lineups and good snow conditions whenever they ski. If Lake Louise fails to live up to your expectations, the ski area will provide you with a complimentary "Snow Cheque" to come back and ski another day free of charge.

Not only is the scenery in Lake Louise some of the most stunning in the world, but the accomodations are also some of the finest to be found. The region is home to the showcase Chateau Lake Louise, located directly on the lake. Just down the road is the Post Hotel. One of the most luxurious hotels in the world, the Post has an award winning wine list second to none in the country. A bit further is the remote Emerald Lodge, where guests stay in cabins beside this private glacial lake.

The lodging and skiing are so fine they almost reach the unattainable level of the scenery– and with the natural beauty to be found here, “almost” is as close as any man-made feature can get.
